A fantastic opportunity to help us a delivery a better service to our customers by providing finance and operational support to transition, embed and run our new catering provision. We are investing in the provision of on-train catering services, taking over the from an outsourced provider in early 2020 returning it to public ownership. This will serve to deliver a better-quality service to our customers. We will provide on board catering which will showcase Welsh produce; and through our “not-for-profit” model ensure more money can be put back into the development of a product and service.

As the Assistant Finance Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing and reporting the accounting services for our new on-train catering service. As well as being a key part of the finance team, this role will support the rail operations Finance Business Partner and rail operations directorate to plan and deliver the transition of new services into TfW, integrating them into the finance and operations structures.

Role responsibilities

You’ll be carrying out finance activities for the new catering services, embedding the business into the existing finance and operations directorates. This will include monitoring of transitioned services income statement, balance sheet and performing month end close activities (review, adjustments, compliance and reporting).

You’ll also work with the supply chain and catering manager to ensure cash and working capital (including inventory) are managed and reported. As well as undertaking cost and revenue analysis and provide insight to enable commercial decisions.

You’ll also be given the opportunity to act as a finance point of contact for certain business change and onboarding projects, supporting the Operations Finance Business Partner to develop business cases and appraise investment opportunities.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who provide finance and operational support to transition, embed and help us run our new catering provision. Someone who can work on the service’s transitions plans and manage the P&L for the service.

We are looking for experience in sectors such as; hospitality, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) or foodservice markets, where stock management and EPOS tools will be present as this will be important to the role.

You’ll need to have:

o Qualified or Part-Qualified Accountant, studying towards an accreditation such as; ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or similar.

o Experience within hospitality, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) or foodservice markets.

o Experience of having ownership and running of a profit & loss account.

It would be beneficial if you also had:

o Experience of working with retail systems, such as EPOS, ECR and EDI.

o Understanding of stock management and reporting best practices.

o Experience/understanding of business planning, forecasting and budgeting processes.
